 Thoughts and interruptions
« Thread Started on Aug 3, 2007, 6:47pm »

Lanen walked through the corridors, the only sound being her sandaled feet slapping against the stone floors. After all the excitement over the Flight, it was good to find some peace. It was, more often that not, quite difficult to do so. Alone with her thoughts, the girl reflected on what exactly M'kah winning the Flight meant. He and Lani would no doubt be inseparable now, not that they weren't already. And with Lani being Junior Weyrwoman, did that mean her brother was Jr. Weyrleader now? She smiled to herself at the thought, wondering how he would do as a leader.

Hmm... Now who would she bother each day? M'kah would be busy, no doubt, with weyr business now. Kamiah was her friend, but... She always had Mibelith on her mind, and that made Lanen feel uneasy, not knowing how to react when a wave of depression hit. There were others around the weyr, but most had dragons to tend to, or firelizards... Of course, with the Flight done, a clutch was imminent. And that meant new Candidates would soon be running around the weyr. There shone her opportunity for some companionship...

Turning the corner, the raven-haired girl entered the kitchens. This room, too, was unusually quiet. Thankful for the peace, Lanen retrieved an earthen mug from a cupboard and poured herself some klah from a pot hanging over a small fire in the hearth. Breathing in the aroma, she seated herself at the table, gazing down at some dried skins that had recipes scribbled on them in charcoal. A pair of voices interrupted her thoughts, growing louder as the seconds ticked by.

Shards...

((She's turning out to be a moody little one... Hm. I'll continue this later, adding in my twins ^_^ If anyone wants to interrupt Lanen's peace as well, please feel free!))

"...ind taking you down to the beach myself, just let someone know next time, alright? We were all quite worried about you." The tail-end of what sounded like a lecture, given in a kind and non incriminating voice preceded its owner into the kitchens, and it was not too long before Autai and Jekai were herded into the kitchens by their red-headed caretaker. Kamiah took no notice of Lanen, as her attention was focussed on the twins.

Mib perched importantly on Kamiah's shoulder, adding chiding chirps or squawks to the lecture as he saw fit, his eyes watching the pair of had-been explorers as a hawk would a rabbit.

Both children were adourned in fresh tunics, with their hair and faces washed of the tale-tell signs of the earlier adventure they'd been a part of that had sent the Weyr into an uproar. Not that it would have been in such a state if not for that black rider. Of course it wouldn't have been taken lightly either... but there was no need for V'zar to throw the entire Weyr into a state of high alert when they'd only been missing a short while.

If not for the fact that Kamiah possessed no backbone, she'd give the man a piece of her mind... Well, she could do so mentally she supposed. She'd no trouble with that. As it was, she planned on avoiding him if at all possible from now on. A sigh left her. She really aught to learn to stick up for herself...

Behind Kamiah and the twins came Mira. Likewise clothed in a fresh tunic and cleaned of all evidence of the escapade down to the beach.

Lanen looked up as the wave of people entered the room, her thoughts shoved from her mind. Seeing Kamiah, she smiled, but wached silently as several others also crowded ino the room. She had been gone from he weyr for a while, so the faces almost seemed new to her, but she was able to recall their names afer a couple seconds of thinking.

From what she had overheard, the young children that entered had recently been on an adventure of sorts, sending the whole weyr into disarray. Naturally, they would be watched very closely now. Lanen smiled inwardly, almost feeling sorry for the little ones. She took another sip of her klah before smiling up at Kamiah. "Good morning to you." she said sweetly, also looking at the children. "I hear I missed quite the excitement while I was away."

The newest members of Asail Weyr entered now, both silent as they peered into the room. Denara sood a lengh back from her brother, seemingly hiding behind him. Kedra glanced around, not wanting to interrupt any of the conversations that were happening. Once a break formed in the constant flow of chatter, he cleared his throat politely. "Erm, could any of you help us out? We've just recently arrived, and I'm afraid we have no idea what we're doing." he said, chuckling as he finished his sentence. Denara stepped to one side so that she could clearly see the vaious people in the room, ears craning to hear their response.

The twitter of fire lizards added to the rising level of noise in the Kitchen as Mayda entered followed by the flutter of gold and brown wings. The excited images she was getting from the two creatures was disorientating and consequently Mayda was finding it difficult to walk straight and not trip over things. She stopped and tried to calm the little queen, who was the most excited of the two, this had been the first dragorn flight that Fife had seen and was insisting on replaying the whole thing to Mayda, especially as Toleth had flown so well.

"Yes dear." Mayda said gently to the still flitting Fife as she managed to coax Trip down onto her shoulder. An image of her brother and Toleth flashed in her mind. "Look," She said to the little gold, more harshly than she meant to. "If your so concerned about him go and bug him instead of me." Fife gave a distinctly annoyed cheap and then flicked between. Mayda sighed slightly and Trip curled himself more tightly around her neck. "She'll probably sulk for days now." She said to nobody in particular.

She turned as Kedra spoke up. "Well, we'll have to do something about that." She said kindly. "Why don't you sit down and I'll put a pot of Khal on while we sort you out?"

Ushering the children - Mira included - toward an empty table near Lanen's, Kamiah bade them to sit so she could get them something to eat. Mira had frowned lightly, picking in annoyance at the fresh tunic she was now wearing before doing as she was told and taking a seat at the table.

Really, they hadn't been that dirty. She'd seen no need for a bath and change in clothing, but then if she'd had her way she'd likely have been running around covered head to toe in mud, muck, and all manner of filth before even considering running to Corinne or V'zar for a change.

As the children settled at the table, Kamiah's brown firelizard, Mib, left his customary place at the woman's shoulder to alight in the center of the table, his multifaceted eyes moving to gaze in turn at Jekai, Autai, and Mira. Kamiah had been upset with the disapearence of the children earlier, and Mib had decided it his personal job to see to it that they did not go astray again.

Folding his wings along his back the brown paced importantly back and forth along the table top, chittering all the while to the three wayward youth's in a light, yet reproachful tone as in his own mind he lectured them on the importance of staying put.

His tirade was cut short however by the appearence of two other firelizards to the kitchens, both of them chattering away excitably to the woman who'd entered with them. He made no move to greet either, just observed quietly as was his way before returning to his pacing and lecturing chatter as if the distraction had never occurred.

Kamiah blinked before returning Lanen's smile, pleasantly surprised at the appearence of her friend who'd so recently been absent from the Weyr. She cast a slightly amused look at Mib as he started in on his own lecture of the children before returning her gaze to the woman before her.

"Lanen! Its so good to see you. You've been well I hope?" As the redhead inquired as to the other woman's well being she distracted pulled her fingers through Autai's hair as if to untangle it, though the thorough brushing she'd given the girl's hair after had bath had seen to that task already.

Her attention was somewhat distracted by the appearence of first Kedra and Denara and then the arrival of Mayda and her brown and gold firelizards. The latter seemed to have Mib's attention as well, for Kamiah was aware of the brown's break in his lecture the children likely weren't understanding anyways, and the woman couldn't help hide the smirk that crept across her features as she noted that it wasn't until the Gold flitter had gone between that he'd resumed his interrupted, self appointed task.

"Mib, hush." The brown fell silent immediatly at the request of his bonded and settled himself to preen in the center of the table, pausing to look pointedly at each of the three children every so often to make sure they were still where they should be.

Her brown silenced Kamiah focussed her attention on Denara and Kendra. "Candidates?" The inquiry was soft, quiet, meek. While she may be more confident with those she knew, the redhead always took up a submissive, uncertain air with those she didn't, so the uncertainty in her voice as she questioned the siblings most likely reason for arrival to Asail was customary of her, but if anything it her tone only served to further bring out the apparent hurt in the woman's voice that, despite her attempts, she couldn't quite mask.

Mib halted in his preening to fix the woman with a silent gaze of understanding, his mind reaching out to touch that of his bonded with comfort and love. He may not have been hatched until after Mibelith's passing, but through the link he shared with Kamiah, though certainly not as strong as that of dragon and rider, he understood and felt her pain.

Kamiah was well aware of the fact that now that Kalth had risen, a clutch would soon grace the sands of Asail's hatching grounds. She was also aware of the immenent hatching that would follow, and though Mibelith was never far from her thoughts, the knowledge of the new bonds that would be formed between hatchling and candidate, dragon and rider, brought the deceased green foremost to her thoughts, and the ex-rider couldn't help but feel a stab of jealousy. Jealousy for those lucky enough to still have their lifemates, jealousy for the select candidates that would get the chance at finding their's.

With a smile to show she was still listening, Kamiah turned to head towards the hearth, pulling three earthen bowls from a shelf as she went, before filling them with the thin stew someone had set cooking as the Weyr's intended lunch for the day. None of the children had finished their breakfast, they were undoubtedly hungry.

I hear you couldn't even keep your dragonet alive for more than a few minutes.

Try as she might the woman couldn't stop the stinging comment she'd recieved ealier from entering her thoughts. Did she even have the right to call herself an ex-rider? Mibelith had betweened almost instantly upon hatching... The time she'd had with the small deformed green had been short, far too short.

Turning to head back for the table the children occupied Kamiah placed a bowl before each of them, handing out silverware shortly after as she tried to force her mind to a less painful subject.

Kamiahmine, I love you, dont feel bad, dont hurt yourself, this is for my own good. I love you more than you could ever imagine.....

A lump rose unbidden to the woman's throat, silent tears blurring her eyes as Mibelith's last words burned through her memory as fresh and painful as the day the hatchling had spoke them.

With a mournful cry Mib launched himself from the tabletop and attatched himself to the front of Kamiah's tunic, heedless to the fact that his claws had pierced not only cloth, but flesh too in his attempts at comforting his bonded. His small lithe head rubbed against the underside of Kamiah's chin and he wrapped his entire being around her mind through their link, trying his best to convey to the woman all his love and admiration for her.

Mib's fierce display of affection astounded Kamiah, and the bond between them fairly hummed with the intense emotions the brown firelizard was sending to his bonded. A soft smile brushed the woman's lips and she blinked back the tears threatening to fall before they could do so. Her hands rose to displace the brown from his position on her tunic front, for as much as she appreciated Mib's fervor, his claws were sharp.

Cradling the brown in the crook of his arm Kamiah sent her own thoughts of love and adoration to the brown before returning her gaze to the kitchen's other occupants, hoping that none of them had been paying too much attention to her to have noticed her tears or grief sticken expression. Though with Mib's outcry she doubted that would be the case.

((Heh... yay for pointless rambling? ^^;

Lanen giggled at Mayda as she and her firelizards entered, causing a bit of havoc as the pair of flitts chattered excitedly. The little queen reminded her of her brother's Rios, just more dainty. The poor brown was offended almost as easily as the gold, she thought silently to herself with a grin.

To her friend Kamiah, her grin broadened as she nodded. "I have been well, thank you! Some time away was nice, but it is also nice to be home. Seems we returned just in the nick of time, too. Another minute and poor Ak probably would've been left behind." I wonder what would have happened if we had been a little later... Heh. Kalth probably would've torn poor Ak to ribbons out of sheer anger at him being late. Or at least lectured him something good.

At her inward thought, Lanen snickered, picturing Kalth lecturing the bronze. The Queen dwarfed him as it was already, but an angry gold always seemed larger and more intimidating than otherwise.

The girl now turned, hearing an unfamiliar voice, and watched as the pair of twins entered the bustling room. Candidates, no doubt. With the Flight, there comes of course, the clutch. Lanen felt a sudden pang of anxiety, her head whirling with the thought of another hatching. There's quite a few Candidates for Kalth's clutch... Would she be left standing again? The girl sighed, turning back to stare at her cup of klah, willing it to fill itself so she would not have to get up and do it herself. It wasn't working. Lanen glanced upward again, and was taken aback at the expression on her friend's face. She stayed silent, knowing full well what was going through Kamiah's head as the girl cradled the little flitter in her arm. I can't imagine what would happen to her if she didn't have Mib... That flitter is amazing...

Kedra nodded, relieved to have a friendly answer, and placed himself in an open seat. "Thank you. My name is Kedra. My sister and I are to be Candidates here." he said, trying to make conversation with a room full of strangers. Denara took a seat next to her twin, smiling up at the woman who had replied. "I'm Denara."

((Finally, a post! Lol...Got going with Lanen there for a moment... Poor twins got nothing xD))

Seeking any route of escape from the thoughts currently swirling around her mind, Kamiah gave Mib one last loving caress and replaced him on the table amidst the children, her attention turning to Lanen once more, the smile on her face genuine and unforced.

"I'm afraid I didn't get the opportunity to watch the flight and its outcome what with the children needing a bath and now food. Did Akhorth catch Kalth then?" The redhead made no comment about the clutch to come, preferring to avoid that particular subject for the time being, as the new arrivals, Kedra and Denara would undoubtedly bring up.

It was hard. It would always be hard, but she'd made it through one hatching since Mibelith's passing, she could make it through another, and the countless others destined to come in the future.

From his position on the table Mib gave a cheery chirp of affirmation. Vocally adding his support for his bonded. Images of the last hatching, flashed through Kamiah's mind, Mib had not left her side for a moment then. He'd been with her the whole time, comforting her when she needed it, chirruping excitedly when she didn't. The images faded and the brown gave a light trill.

Kamiah smiled at the brown and gave him a scratch under the chin. "I'm here for you too Mib. So Lanen, are you planning on standing again? Have you given it any thought? Personally I think you should..."

"Before I forget, is anyone hungry? There's some stew, and I wouldn't mind dishing you all up some if you'd like." Kamiah shot a smile at all of the kitchens occupants as she moved towards the children once more, lifting a corner of her apron to wipe the mess of stew off of the front of Mira's tunic, an exhasperated sigh leaving her. "Honestly Mira, you /just/ got a fresh tunic. Can we try to keep the food in our mouth and off our clothing?"

Mira gave a grudging sound of affirmation and went back to eating.

With a creen of hunger Gem burst from between above the child's head and landed on the table. With a self important flick of tail she made her way to Mira's bowl, only to be shooed away by Kamiah's hand. Squaking indignantly she lurched back. No matter. There were other hatchlings present. The wild Gold's attention turned to Jekai.

"Yes," Mayda replied to Kamiah's question about the flight as she tried to disentangle Trips tail from around her throat. "He arrived late and it was a close thing but Akhorth caught Kalth." She explained as she suceeded in untangling the little brown fire lizard from her hair and planted him on the table with the other fire lizards.

Trip chirupped experimently at Mib, interested in the other brown but not quite sure how to proceed. He shuffled about on the table a little not really moving in any particular direction.

"What are you up to you silly thing?" Mayda chuckled watching Trip's antics. "Oh, some stew would be great, thank you." She added as Kamiah offered food, realising for the first time quite how hungry she was; it had been a busy day.

Trip was just considering moving down the table a bit when a flash of gold appeared from between. The little brown half jumped, half shuffled back down the table away from Gem. Turning his head on the side slightly he considered the small queen for a moment before chirruping decisively and hopping down the table a bit, towards the two fire lizards.

Mayda shook her head slightly, smiling at the little Brown; he really was a silly little thing.

Another fire lizard suddenly appeared, adding to the flock currently inhabiting the kitchen. Sky blue in color, an appearance of regality was marred only by the hasitly painted black tail spade and a considerable ammount of pudge. The newcomer circled once, his loud, excited chirps adding to the buzz of conversation, before swooping down to the already crowded tabletop. Through some minor miricle he managed to avoid a collision and landed wihtout incident upon the well-worn wood. He wasted no time in stalking his desiered prey but simply approched, attempting to look as pathetic and dejected as possible.

His goal was Autai....or, more specifically, the weyrbrat's stew. The blue placed his tiny forepaws upon the bowl's rim and stared intently into its contents as if he might find the secret of the universe floatin amonst the vegtables. He then swung his head upward to lock eyes with his unwary victim, a soft squeak of longing drifting from his jaws. However, before he could continue his act, a tidel wave of angry thoughts poured into his mind. With a distrested chirp he turned to stare at the kitchen's entrance, dreading what he would see but compelled by some unknown force to look. Sure enough, there stood Awilen, arms crossed and wearing a furious expression that would boil water.

"What do you think your doing Chud?" The girl spat, glaring at her fitt as if he were guilty of some horrendous crime. The blue removed his forepaws from the bowl and sent Awilen a feeling of intense hunger. She rolled her eyes and took a few menacing steps forward. "Don't give me that! anyone can see your almost too fat to fly!"

In response, Chud winked between to Awilen's shoulder, giving apologetic croons and nuzzling the warm neck. She felt her anger quickly disolve and, sighing, reached up to scratch the flitt's chin. "Ah, you know my weakness." She said, a smile slowly appearing on her lips. "I can never stay mad at you for long. But you really do need to cut back on the snacks, ok?" The blue chirped a promiss in response and settled into the familar perch, staring about the unfamilar surroundings and faces with intense curiosity.

And in the blink of an eye her tenderness was gone. Awilen quickly shoved her way into an empty chair. She leaned back and placed a pair of mud covered boots upon the table, struggling to keep her balance but doing her very best to appear in complete controal. There was a breif pause, then the girl gave a loud yell. "Hey, what do I have to do to get some food around here?"

((Finally, a post! Took me long enough.))

Before she'd a chance to reply to Mayda, a little blue flit appeared from between to interest himself in Autai's stew. Kamiah gave an exasperated sigh and moved toward the weyrbrat to shoo the unwanted visitor from her bowl, but the blue gave a distressed chirp, and left the bowl of his own accord -- or at least it seemed that way. A moment later Kamiah became aware of the girl standing in the doorway, disaplining the flit from afar. The hapless creature went between, only to appear next to the woman and land upon her shoulder.

Waving her hand at Gem yet again - little gold was going after Jekai's food now - Kamiah turned her attention to Mayda again, continuing their previous coversation. "I'm sure that made Lani and M'kah happy." The redhead smiled over at Lanen. "Think he'll gloat about that?" A soft lilting laugh left her throat and her smile turned to Mayda once more.

"I'll get you a bowl then. Would you like some Klah as well? I'm sure there's a pot on..."

In response to Trip's chirrup, Mib tilted his head to the side, eyes whirring soft blues and greens, and he returned the other brown's greeting in kind. Gem's arrival snatched the male's attention for a moment, but after having identified her as bonded to that man who upset his Kamiah so much, Mib merely gave a self important flick of his tail and promptly ignored the wild queen, his attention returning to Trip. Stretching out his wings the male refolded them, eyeing the children briefly before moving closer to Trip and letting out an inquisitive chirp.

The arrival of Chud caught the brown's attention breifly, but once the blue had gone between to his, Mib paid him no more heed.

Gem on the otherhand, had been shooed away from yet another hatchling. For a moment she debated going for Autai, but Kamiah was currently near the hatchling and the Gold didn't particularly care for getting a hand waved in her snout yet again.

"Gem..." The sound of her name caught the gold's attention and she arched her neck regally, stalking gracefully across the table towards Mira, who having eaten her fill, was holding out a delectable piece of wherry meat. The gold's air of nobility dissolved instantly upon reaching the offered morsel however, as she pounced upon it greedily and snapped it up within two bites. Her head tilted appeasingly as she eyed V'zar's clutchdaughter, eyes whirring red with hunger. More please Mirahis? An excited chirp left her as another piece of food was held out. Not meat, a tuber this time. No matter though, it still tasted delectable, having been swimming around in the juice that made up the stew. Before a third piece could be offered however, Kamiah's hand was in the gold's face again.

"Mira, eat your stew. Gem's undoubtedly had more than her share already."

Hissing indignantly at the woman the Gold took flight, winking between to the lake, and in turn, V'zar.

Kamiah couldn't help jumping slightly at Awilen's outcry, and she blinked at the other women in silent surprise. The newcomer was unfamiliar to her, a transfer maybe? No. She didn't wear the colors of a rider. Candidate then most likely. A very pushy candidate.

Perhaps it was due to the fact that Corinne's no nonsense attitude was wearing off on her slightly, or maybe the woman had just had enough of being yelled at and ordered around today. Straightening slightly, Kamiah folded her arms, trying to appear in control - after all, before Corinne's arrival, Kamiah had acted as headwoman - a very poor one yes - but one nontheless. Mib moved quickly to his bonded's shouldered, silently supporting her as he added his fierce glare to the stance.
Any attempt at appearing commanding dissolved instantly when Kamiah spoke though. Her voice soft and audibly meek and unsure. "Asking politely wouldn't hurt..." The woman's stature disintegrated. Her brief rise in confidence gone as quickly as it had appeared, as she quickly gave in to the demands of the woman. "Would you like any Klah with it?"

Kamiah briefly pondered confronting the woman about her feet on the table, but pushed the issue aside for now, not sure how the other would take to such a demand.

((I shall drag in Araizik soon.

Awilen stared at the woman with the brown flit, subjecting the pair to a quiet evaluation. This one was timid, submissive; she would be easy to dominate and control, and, if she regulary hung about in the kitchens, a useful source of rumors and information that the candidate could use against more important members of the Weyr. But...how to deal with that flit? He seemed unusaly close to his bonded and would likely react unfavorably to anyone who attempted to manipulate her....

Well, no matter; these plans best formulated in the relative quiet of her own bed, for the bustle of the kitchen would only contiue to distract her thoughts untill she gave up on the idea all together. Besides, she was hungry. Carefully shifting in her chair to prevent herself from falling backwards in a chaotic heap, Awilen turned to face the woman and spoke in the most comanding voice she could muster, eyes flashing with enjoyment at tormenting such an easy target.

"Of course I would!" She snapped. Chud responded to the impatient note in his bonded's voice by attempting to return the brown's glare, but only suceeded in producing a ludicrus half-dazed look. His face was unfamilar with such darker expressions, after all, and found it near impossible to produce one. "And hurry up with that stew woman! I'm about ready to keel over dead from hunger!"

((OOC-Sorry that took me so long. I really ment to post sooner, but school has a way of disrupting one's plans.))
